The Undercover Book List is about Jane and Tyson and the secret book club that brings them together. Each of the characters suggests a book for the other to read. As I was writing, I had to make sure that the books I included were ones the characters would choose. Jane loves mysteries and Tyson likes fast-paced, humorous books.
But if I was in an Undercover Book Club, what would I choose? So glad you asked!
When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller
I loved, loved, loved this book. Part heart-ache, part Korean folk-tale and 100% great writing and characters.
Aggie Morton Mystery Queen: The Body Under the Piano by Marthe Jocelyn
So maybe Jane would have chosen this book too! (Jane does have excellent taste in books!) Each one of Aggie's stories has me guessing who the culprit might be. There are plot twists and two totally engaging main characters.
The Line Tender by Kate Allen
As soon as I finished this book, I reached out to Kate Allen to tell her how amazing I thought it was. The voice of Lucy is memorable. Her story weaves its way into your heart and doesn't let go.
Thanks A Lot, Universe by Chad Lucas
There's something very endearing about the two main characters of this book. As a reader, I was rooting for both of them and loved seeing the way other characters supported them. There's plenty of suspense, but in the end, this book is about how we need to look after each other.
Music for Tigers by Michelle Kadarusman
The writing in Michelle's book is 'chef's kiss' perfection. A carefully nuanced story about a finding family and friends when you least expect them.
Sara and the Search for Normal by Wesley King
In this prequel to OCDaniel, we learn more about Sara and how she comes to think of herself as a Star Child. Watching Sara struggle with school, friends and trying to fit in is heartbreaking and real. I dare you not to cry at the end!
Student Book Club Suggestions
I love getting suggestions from readers! Here are what fifth-grader Addison thinks would make great book club books: Just Like Jackie- By Lindsey Stoddard Closer to Nowhere- By Ellen Hopkins Violets are Blue- By Barbara Dee Restart- By Gordon Korman
What books would you choose? Do you have a book club at your school? I'd love to hear from you! Send me an email at [email protected] or reach out on twitter @colleennelson14
